Melanie May Waxman earned her Masters Degree in Jewish Education from Baltimore
Hebrew University and was subsequently employed at Temple Beth Orr of Coral
Springs, Florida, for nearly ten years as the Director of Informal Education. Melanie
specializes in Informal Adolescent Jewish Education and Family Education and has
been a part of the URJ movement for over 18 years. Previously, she served as the
Principal at Columbia Jewish Community School and the Maccabi Youth Experience
Director at the Baltimore JCC’s. While attending graduate school at Baltimore Hebrew
University from 1993-1996, Melanie served as Har Sinai Congregation’s Assistant to
the Principal and Youth Director. During that time Melanie started PACT – Parents and
Children Together, a design for family programming for the Congregation. For the past
8 years, Melanie has travelled around the country, creating and leading workshops and
retreats for teens and their educators in the Jewish world, specializing in hot topics such
as sexuality, bullying and self-esteem. Currently, Melanie is the Formal and Informal
Education Director at Har Sinai Congregation in Owings Mills, Maryland. She enjoys
being a mom to Jacob and Jonah, and she is the proud wife of Richard, her husband of
12 years!
