Word or Name: $180
Any word or name can be chosen. This will not be associated with a particular verse.
Verse: $540
Any verse which is not included in one of the other levels can be dedicated in this category. This could be the first verse of a Bar or Bat Mitzvah Torah portion or a verse from a meaningful story. The Rabbi can help people select verses.
Monumental Verse: $1,000
These verses are connected to holidays, i.e. verses which provide the basis for the Four Children for Passover, or are significant adages, “Man does not live by bread alone.” There is a chart of Monumental Verses.
Parasha: $1,800
There are 54 Torah portions. A portion is read each week. Sometimes two portions may be read in one week based on the cycle of the calendar. People may want to dedicate the portion on which they or a family member become Bar or Bat Mitzvah, celebrated an anniversary, or marked another special occasion.
Significant Paragraph: $3,600
The significant paragraphs stories that are generally well known stories in the Torah. They also include important laws, i.e. Kosher foods, laws of warfare, etc. There is a chart of Significant Paragraphs.
Significant Verse: $7,200
These are verses which are of significance to the Jewish people and are known in American history. They include the first verse of Genesis, the Golden Rule, the Priestly blessing (May God bless you and keep you), “Proclaim liberty throughout the land” (on the Liberty Bell), and the last verses of Deuteronomy. There is a chart of Significant Verses.
Significant Portion: $12,000
Significant portions are Torahs portions that are read during holidays and major moments in the history of the Jewish people. They include:
- Rosh Hashanah – First Day: This is the Binding of Isaac.
- The Ten Plagues
- Passover - First Day
- Splitting Of The Red Sea
- Song of the Red Sea: This is a poem recited by Moses and the people
- Shavuot: The Ten Commandments are Read
- Ten Commandments in Exodus: The Ten Commandments are repeated twice.
- Yom Kippur–Afternoon: Reform temples read Leviticus 19; Laws for a society
- Zelophad's Daughters: The vitality of Jewish women
- Sukkot
- Ten Commandments: The Ten Commandments are repeated twice
- Shema - You Shall Love Your God
- Yom Kippur – Morning
- Song of Moses: This is a special poem at the end of Deuteronomy
- Simchat Torah: The end of Deuteronomy and beginning of Genesis
Book of the Torah: $18,000
There are five books in each Torah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. A person can dedicate a book in any of the seven Torahs.
Torah: $54,000
Har Sinai Congregation has seven Torah scrolls.
